You may have heard on the news that members of the National Education Union (NEU) have voted to take strike action and I wrote to all parents/carers last week with a brief update but could not, at that point, outline our plans as a school for managing the proposed strikes. The dates of the strikes, for our area, are as follows:
- Wednesday 1st February 2023 (next Wednesday)
- Tuesday 28th February 2023
- Wednesday 15th March 2023
- Thursday 16th March 2023
Since the announcement last week, the Senior Leadership Team, Governors and I have spent time assessing the impact the strike action would have on our school and children. We have consulted the Local Authority and I am now in a position to confirm that Florence Melly Community Primary School will be closed, to ALL children, on Wednesday 1st February 2023, due to the industrial strike action.
Our risk assessment confirms that, on health and safety grounds, we cannot open school to any pupils; we will not have the staff capacity to safely look after and supervise the children on the strike day. As a result of the number of teaching staff striking, we will not be providing remote learning on the strike day.
Whilst we understand the huge inconvenience this may cause, we respect that members of any professional association/union have the right to take this action following a legal ballot. At this moment in time, we do not have any further updates regarding the scheduled strike days for Tuesday 28th February, Wednesday 15th March or Thursday 16th March 2023. Further information will be provided as soon as possible.
